I was recently talking to my husband about what I believe to simultaneously be the worst and best trait of our (the millennial) generation: we are never satisfied. I am not the first person to notice this, most recently I remember Aziz Ansari including some insights about this in his book Modern Romance. I know it’s personally true that I can’t just go out for tacos… I have the find THE BEST tacos. Thank you, Yelp! This can make decision making incredibly difficult depending on your personality type. I’m an ENFP, and I’m slightly obsessed with Myers-Briggs in general. My personality is said to be a campaigner or inspirer, and I think many aspects of of the personality description are true for me. In order to be truly fulfilled, ENFPs need a creative outlet. For me, that outlet is writing about the things that I love: beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.
This brings me full circle to the dilemma of the millennial. We were raised to “follow our dreams,” told we could literally be anything we wanted to be when we grew up, and many of us thought that was true and are still paying off the student loan debts to prove it. (Hint: me!) I don’t fault our parents for this one bit, because in some ways I think they were right. We no longer get a job and stay complacent with our paychecks year in and year out. Instead, we constantly wonder if we are unlocking our true potential, what path we really should be exploring, and how exactly to capture that elusive feeling of satisfaction. That was my long winded way of announcing that I am starting a blog.
embrace messy hair will be my own little corner of the digital space where I can share my thoughts about beauty, fashion, and life. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me!
